Sport: Conte Happy With Morata’s Performance Against Arsenal

Antonio Conte has leapt to Alvaro Morata’s defence, after the striker was criticised for his performance against Arsenal.

The Chelsea No. 9 has had a flying start to life at Chelsea, but could not improve on his tally of three goals and two assists.

His critics feel he is lacking in the physical section and Conte has dismissed any such criticism, as he maintains he is happy with his performance against Arsenal.

“I don’t know [if his physicality is a problem],” Conte said at his post-match news conference.

“In my opinion, Morata played a really good game.

“I’m very happy with his performance. In my opinion, for me, he played very well today. He had a lot of the ball and tried to send Willian, Pedro, our wing-backs [forward with his passes].

“He played a really good game. We are focused on whether the No.9 scores or not.

“If he scored he played a good game, if he doesn’t he didn’t have a good game. But I was happy with his performance. We see different things.”

Arsenal kept their Champions League hopes alive as Robert Huth’s own goal handed them a 1-0 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday.

Robert Huth’s late own goal spared Arsenal’s blushes as Arsene Wenger’s side claimed a vital three points in the race for the Premier League’s top four with a 1-0 win over Leicester City.

Nacho Monreal – who netted in Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Manchester City last time out – continued his form in front of goal when his 86th-minute strike deflected in wickedly off Leicester’s German defender.

It was a relief for the home crowd following a lacklustre display from Wenger’s men, who, despite desperately needing to make up ground on the teams above them, had been found wanting throughout at Emirates Stadium.

Alexis Sanchez epitomised Arsenal’s performance with some sloppy touches and slack passing, though the former Barcelona winger still went closest for the hosts in a tepid first half – hitting the woodwork with a blistering strike on the stroke of half-time, with Riyad Mahrez having tested Petr Cech at the other end.

The Chile international is certain to come in for criticism after going down clutching his face in the final moments, a throw-in from close range having struck his shoulder.

Never in Wenger’s 20-year tenure have Arsenal, who face title-challenging Tottenham next, missed out on a Champions League qualification spot, but they looked set to be held by Leicester until, with just over four minutes remaining, Huth’s misfortune sealed the points.

The victory moves Arsenal up into sixth place, three points behind Manchester United and four adrift of fourth-placed City, with Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola’s sides facing each other on Thursday.

Arsenal is Not Afraid Of Bayern Munich – Arsene Wenger

Agency Report
Arsene Wenger insists that his Arsenal side do not fear Bayern Munich ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League meeting, despite the Bavarians having won every game they have played this season.
Pep Guardiola’s men have streaked clear in the Bundesliga title race, picking up maximum points after nine games, and also top their Champions League group after consecutive wins.

Arsenal’s own place in the competition is at risk after back-to-back defeats against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos, with victory desperately needed against Bayern, and Wenger believes his side can take heart from previous wins over the German champions.
“We could be suspected of not taking the first two Champions League games seriously enough, but that won’t be a problem against Bayern,” Wenger told reporters.

We know we are playing against a top side. Tomorrow everyone will be highly focused.
“We are [confident]. We’ve played great Bayern teams before, at least as good as the one we play tomorrow, and beaten them. The team that won the treble, with [Franck] Ribery at full power, [Arjen] Robben at full power, [Toni] Kroos and [Bastian] Schweinsteiger, [Thomas] Muller.

There is no team without weaknesses. If you asked me to come out with them now, I wouldn’t do it. But there are no teams without weaknesses.
“We want to defend well, attack well and score the first goal. That is massively important in big games. You can’t say you will score three goals in 20 minutes [as against Manchester United] because that is absolutely crazy.
