2019 Election: President Buhari Will Not Share Money — Lai Mohammed

Information and culture Minister Lai Mohammed says the Buhari administration is not interested in sharing money, but to provide basic needs of Nigerians.

Government, according to him,is aware of complaints by some Nigerians about lack of free money, and declared that the administration prefers to invest in infrastructure that would have ripple effects on the economy than sharing money to people and political stooges like the previous administration did.

“Yes, people are complaining of no money and high cost of living, but I want to tell you that it would have been worse today, but for the massive infrastructural development this government is investing on,” the minister said at Tatabu village near Mokwa in Niger State, while inspecting the reconstructed and rehabilitated Ilorin-Jebba- Mokwa Road project.

The 93.6 km road project includes the total reconstruction of Ilorin /Jebba Road and rehabilitation of failed portions from Jebba to Mokwa.

The Ilorin-Jebba road is part of the Lagos- Algiers Road called trans Sahara road which cuts across the West and North Africa.
In Nigeria, the road connects the South-West geo-geographical zone to the Northern part of the country.

Mohammed said: “When people make these complaints, they easily forget that for 16 years, one political party was in power, sharing money when this road became completely failed.

“APC, in three years, has fixed this road to this level. I think it speaks for itself.

“Before now, it would take about five days for trucks to move from Ilorin to Jebba. Today, it takes only two hours.

“Today, on this road, you can see free movement of goods and services which is the beginning of revival of the economy.”
The minister added: “We are not a government that will share money like what others did which put the country in a mess.

“This government believes in investing in infrastructure because if you get this right, it will translate to wealth creation.

“Let us take for instance: if this road contract costs N10 billion and we share it to political stooges in this area at N1 million each, we will only give 1,000 people and there will be no road.

“On the long run, those that we shared the money to will join in abusing the government for non-performance.

“On our part, we will rather slowly and painstakingly revive our economy through infrastructural development and we have a lot of stories to tell on this”.

Asked whether government would toll the road to raise money for its completion to Birnin-Gwari in Kaduna and for its dualisation, Mohammed said, not all roads could be tolled.
His words:”This matter came up at the last Federal Executive Council meeting and we agreed that, not all roads could be tolled.
“The idea of tolling roads is to recoup the expenses on the construction and make them sustainable.

“A study is being compiled, and at the end of it, it will be decided on what roads to toll and which not.”

The Federal Controller of Works, Kwara State, Mr Atitebi Wasiu, who conducted the minister and his entourage round the project, said the contract for the dualisation of the road had been awarded and work would commence in the next three weeks.

“The dualisation is awarded to the same contractor from Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa at the total contract sum of N130 billion.

“The Kwara State section of the dualisation is awarded at N80 billion, while the Niger State section is about N50 billion,” he said.

Shocking: Fayemi Raises Alarm As Fayose Recruits 2000 Ekiti Teachers, Others

Barely two months to the end of his tenure, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, is set to recruit 1000 teachers and another 1000 workers of different categories into the state’s civil service.

The move is currently creating angst within the camp of the governor-elect, Kayode Fayemi, who has rejected the move and called on the citizens to be wary of such employment.
But Mr Fayose has argued that the recruitment was in keeping with his promise to the people of Ekiti State.

A statement on Friday by the governor’s Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the final process of the recruitment exercise had commenced.

“In addition to the forms already obtained free of charge by the applicants, forms are now available at the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Civil Service Commission, Ministry of Health and other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies,” he said.

“Forms for applicants seeking employment into the junior cadres of the public service are available at N500 each while those for the senior cadres are N1,000 each till August 24, 2018.”

Mr Olayinka berated Mr Fayemi and his party, APC, for criticising the recruitment exercise.
“With less than two weeks to the end of his tenure in 2014, Fayemi appointed eight permanent secretaries and they are still in office up till now,” Mr Olayinka recalled.
“He also recruited several workers behind closed doors and they are still in the service.”
He stated that Mr Fayemi should wait till October 16 when he would be sworn in governor, rather than acting as an “alternate government.”

“It is on record that Governor Fayose announced in January this year that recruitment will be made into the state public service and this was followed up with distribution of employment forms in May,” Mr Olayinka further said.

“This was consequent upon the existing vacancies in the public service, especially the teaching sector. There are schools without adequate teachers in critical subjects like Mathematics, Physics, English and others. So the students that are resuming in September should wait till Fayemi assumes office?

“Most importantly, Fayose will carry out all the functions of his office till October 16 and since there is need to employ workers, the government will do so through a transparent process.

“Isn’t it funny that the same APC people that criticised the government for constructing a modern Oja Oba Market in Ado Ekiti are now kicking against allocation of the shops to the people? So Governor Fayose should build the market for Fayemi to come and allocate the shops to his cronies?

“The APC in Ekiti State should therefore be reminded that there is still a government in the State and that government will not change until October 16, 2018.”

Earlier, Mr Fayemi had described the last minute move by the outgoing administration of Governor Fayose to recruit the workers as a deliberate effort to put obstacles in the way of the in-coming administration.

A statement by the Director of Media and Publicity in the Office of the governor-elect, Wole Olujobi, berated Mr Fayose for embarking on a last minute mass recruitment to allegedly deceive the unsuspecting victims and set a booby-trap for the incoming administration.

He said Mr Fayose was playing on the intelligence of the people to paint a picture of a man of the masses in clear infraction on the law.

“It is a grand deception and sheer wickedness for a governor that has refused to pay workers and pensioners for between six and 10 months to now turn around to recruit about 2,000 workers in a selective manner to favour his supporters only,” said Mr Olujobi.

He also described the governor’s planned recruitment as an act of desperation by a governor who never cared for the people but would always take advantage of them in a most dehumanising manner.

“Once again, we call on Ekiti people as we did in our recent press release to be wary of Fayose’s last minute illegal deals, transactions and mass recruitment which do not follow due process,” he added.

“Any transaction so done shall be reviewed by the incoming administration.”

A member of the house of representatives from Edo state, has opened up on how Senator Dino Melaye saved him from thugs at the National Assembly.

Speaking while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, a member of the house of representatives from Edo state, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, accused his colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sending thugs to assault him.

According to TheCable, the lawmaker said but for Dino Melaye, and another senator who “protected” him, he would have been attacked inside the National Assembly Complex on Tuesday.

Agbonayinma who was one of the few lawmakers in the All Progressives Congress (APC) that came to the complex during the security siege that lasted for hours, alleged that thugs hired by the PDP accosted him at the entrance of the complex.

He said: “The national assembly belongs to all political parties and Nigerians why must PDP thugs block me from entering the complex?.
“If I had reacted and stormed the place with other APC lawmakers, could they have withstood us? I chose to be a mature Nigerian. I equally want the thugs tried in the same vein with the invaders.

“The DSS also protected me from the rampaging thugs and the question is who brought them there if not the PDP.
“Even when I finally entered the complex PDP lawmakers told me I had no business being there and it was senators Matthew Uroghide and Dino Melaye who protected me.”
The lawmaker called for a probe of the alleged assault, saying: “This can’t happen in the United States as such thugs will be prosecuted. I demand for their prosecution.”
